Liverpool quietly avoided another right-back blow after Jeremie Frimpong injury

Conor Bradley has admitted he is unhappy with the number of yellow cards he has received this season – but is thankful he avoided a suspension for Real Madrid.

The Northern Ireland international has been booked seven times in 13 appearances for club and country this campaign.

And if he had received a third booking of the Champions League campaign during Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night, he would have triggered an automatic one-game suspension for the home clash against Real Madrid in November.

But Bradley, who replaced Jeremie Frimpong after the Dutchman suffered a hamstring injury inside 20 minutes at Deutsche Bank Park, said a member of the Liverpool staff reminded him of the disciplinary tightrope he was walking before his introduction.

“Yeah, obviously I’m not very happy with the yellow cards I’m getting,” Bradley told LFCTV after the game in Germany.

“But it’s something I had in the back of my mind. One of the staff told me if I got one more yellow card I’d be suspended, which is not nice to hear.

“It’s something I’ve got to watch out on as well as I’ve been picking up a few too many recently.

“It’s something to keep an eye on, but thankfully I didn’t get one tonight.”

Had the 22-year-old been cautioned against the Bundesliga outfit, it would have left Arne Slot sweating on his right-back options ahead of Madrid’s visit to Anfield on November 4.

Frimpong is almost certainly set to miss the tie against the Spanish club, with his latest hamstring injury set to keep him sidelined for a “few weeks.”

Dominik Szoboszlai, meanwhile, has been deployed at right-back on several occasions this season, though his performance against Frankfurt underlined his importance in midfield.

Fortunately for Slot though, Bradley will not have to serve a suspension for Liverpool’s next Champions League game and will be available for selection when Los Blancos roll into town next month.
