Ryan Gravenberch has not travelled with the Liverpool squad to Frankfurt due to an ankle injury, and an update on his chances of a return on the weekend has been provided by Arne Slot.
The Dutchman could not play out the full 90 minutes over the weekend after twisting his ankle in a challenge against Man United, consequently forcing him to miss training on Tuesday.
With Slot’s press conference on the eve of the match against Frankfurt cancelled due to a delay to Liverpool’s flight, he provided an update on the No. 38 on the club’s official website.
“I had to take him off during the weekend because he limped a little bit, as we could all see. So, unfortunately, he’s not ready to play tomorrow,” Slot said.

“That already means I definitely have to change one player and with him not being there, that might mean something for others as well because he has such a particular quality in our squad.
“We’ve seen when we played Bournemouth, for example, when we played the Community Shield – that we missed a little bit of a player that was always protecting our back four.
“Ryan is not available for the Frankfurt game, hopefully he will be available at the weekend.
“But it’s an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt.”
This will be the fourth match Gravenberch has missed this season after missing the Community Shield as he and his partner welcomed their first child, before a suspension against Bournemouth, and later a rest against Southampton.
Curtis Jones is a contender to take the Dutchman’s place in the starting lineup at Frankfurt alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, with Wataru Endo‘s return from injury offering another option from the bench.
Liverpool travel to Brentford on Saturday evening, and the hope will be that Gravenberch’s ankle settles in the coming days so that he can play a role in the Premier League fixture.
