8 Liverpool players played maximum international minutes

Liverpool’s internationals have had a busy 10 days, as eight Reds played maximum minutes for their nations and three scored goals.

With members of the squad flying as far as California (Wataru Endo) and South America, Arne Slot may have to consider his squad’s air miles when selecting his side against Burnley on Sunday.

World Cup qualifiers were the main reason for their excursions, as the Netherlands went top of their group, Scotland extended their unbeaten run and France won their opening two games of Group D.

Meanwhile, Egypt were made to wait to secure their qualification, but Argentina and Brazil both had their places at the 2026 World Cup confirmed despite losing their final matches of qualifying.

With 21 notable Liverpool players were involved for their countries, let’s take a look at who played the most minutes and notched either a goal or assist during the September break.

Trey Nyoni actually played the most minutes of any player, as he featured in all three of England U19s’ fixtures with Rio Ngumoha.

From the senior outfielders, none of Virgil van Dijk, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate were afforded any rest, and Mo Salah was only taken off two minutes from the end for Egypt.

Thankfully, Ryan Gravenberch was given the night off for the Netherlands’ second match, as was Wataru Endo for Japan’s game against the USA.

It wasn’t a particularly fruitful international spell for Liverpool’s goalscorers, the notable highlight being Wirtz’s brilliant free-kick to put Germany 3-1 up against Northern Ireland.

Salah also netted, converting a first-half penalty in the Pharaohs’ 2-0 win over Ethiopia. Jayden Danns scored, too, while captaining England U20s, but his outing ended in a 2-1 defeat to Italy.

Gakpo continued his role as key member of Ronald Koeman’s Dutch team, playing both matches in their entirety and setting up Memphis Depay to become the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer.

Szoboszlai had a less successful time away, drawing with the Republic of Ireland and losing in Portugal. He did, though, register an assist against the former, delivering an outswinging corner that Roland Sallai headed home.
