The feeling of knowing an international break is over is unmatched, and we don’t have long until Liverpool are back in action – in their new third kit, no less!

It was back to business at the AXA on Friday, with the full contingent of players back together – and we even got to witness Alexander Isak greet Virgil van Dijk as his new teammate.

Wonder if they’ll ever tell us what was said after the League Cup final!

There were 26 players involved across the day, either in the gym or as part of the full outdoor training session – Curtis Jones, however, was not involved in the latter due to injury.

He has been ruled out against Burnley and academy midfielder Tommy Pilling was instead included.

Isak, meanwhile, was involved in the session, but don’t be expecting a start on Sunday! The full training squad was as follows:

Goalkeepers: Alisson, Mamardashvili, Woodman, Pecsi

Defenders: Van Dijk, Konate, Gomez, Leoni, Robertson, Kerkez, Bradley, Frimpong

Midfielders: Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Endo, Nyoni, Pilling

Forwards: Isak, Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo, Ekitike, Chiesa, Ngumoha

Injured: Jones

Alexander Isak will need a proper pre-season to get up to speed at Liverpool and Slot told supporters not to expect 90-minute performances any time soon – it’ll be hard to be patient!

• Liverpool have submitted a 24-man Premier League squad and seven are listed as homegrown. Thankfully no bad surprises, but two names you may have forgotten are included!

Oliver Glasner has insisted he “never threatened” to leave the club if Marc Guehi was sold, while Slot called the failed transfer a “pity.”

Federico Chiesa was, understandably, “not happy” when he was cut from the Champions League squad but his team spirit was praised by Slot – few would be as forgiving!

Arne Slot has been named the Premier League‘s Manager of the Month, and no surprise that Dominik Szoboszlai won the award for goal of the month – anyone else lost count of the times they’ve watched it?

• You can watch Arne Slot‘s pre-Burnley press conference HERE – there was a lot of big topics for him to discuss and one he avoided, as usual!

Burnley will be aiming for a shock result on Sunday, and Henry Jackson got the lowdown on where the key battles will be from Richard Steele from the No Nay Never podcast:

“I believe that if Burnley can tighten up in the midfield, we can be competitive.

“I just hope we can keep it tight early on and stay in the game, but I feel Liverpool’s attacking threat will be too much for our defence.”

Chelsea‘s Liam Delap will now be sidelined until December with a hamstring injury – good job they have about 1000x forward options to replace him

Eddie Howe has conceded that his relationship with Alexander Isak soured when the striker went on strike to force his transfer – will he ever escape Isak questions?

Harvey Elliott will be part of Aston Villa‘s squad to face Everton on Saturday, Unai Emery confirmed. Wouldn’t be a bad time to score his first goal for the club…(AVFC)

UEFA has announced an alteration of their rules that means a player can be replaced in a club’s squad in the event of a long-term injury or illness – this could open the door for Chiesa, not that you’d wish an injury on anyone!

Liverpool FC: On this day

Liverpool inflicted the ultimate misery on Crystal Palace in 1989, putting nine unanswered goals beyond the Eagles in what was then the First Division.

Eight different players scored for Kenny Dalglish in what remains the club’s best top-flight victory, with John Aldridge, Glenn Hysen, John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Gary Gillespie, Steve McMahon, Ian Rush and Steve Nicol (two) all on the scoresheet.

Though, perhaps it is easier to simply state who didn’t score! David Burrows, Alan Hansen, Ronnie Whelan and Jan Molby (sub) were the unfortunate ones not to get in on the fun.

It was not a bad way for Dalglish to win his 100th game as Liverpool manager, it was his 167th game in charge.
