Liverpool’s Greatest League Cup Moments

Four moments from Liverpool’s history have been nominated as part of the celebration’s for 50 years of the League Cup.

Liverpool have enjoyed more memorable occasions than most when it comes to the League Cup, having won the trophy a record 7 times, most recently in 2003.

The Liverpool nominations are:

Ronnie Whelan‘s beautiful effort against Man United in 1983, supplied the perfect send off for retiring manager Bob Paisley. [Watch]

Graeme Souness‘ goal in the reply of 1984 gave Liverpool a record fourth straight League Cup victory.

Sander Westerveld‘s penalty heroics against Birmingham in 2001 signaled the start of five trophies in five months. [Watch]

Steven Gerrard‘s deflected goal against Man United in Cardiff set Liverpool up for their most recent League Cup triumph in 2003, when Jerzy Dudek’s heroics denied United to give Gerard Houllier his last trophy at the club. [Watch]
