Adam Lallana ‘wants Liverpool move’

Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana wants a move to Liverpool despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United this summer, according to reports in Tuesday’s papers.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form this season, making the shortlist for PFA Player of the Year – which Luis Suarez won on Sunday evening.

The Mirror claim “The winger is set to leave St Marys, with Liverpool in pole position for his signature.”

They claim the Englishman “has his heart set on a move to Anfield.”

The Mirror report that Lallana would cost around £20 million but that “Southampton owner Katharina Liebherr is prepared to green light a sale.”

The news is reported by several of Tuesday’s papers, including The Daily Mail, who write that Lallana “has decided on Merseyside”.

The Times, meanwhile, claim Liverpool will bid £25 million and also have interest in Lallana’s Southampton team mate Luke Shaw, the 18-year-old left-back.

Lallana should be part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad at the World Cup, where he’ll be alongside Liverpool players Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge.

The creative midfielder would add depth and quality to Liverpool’s attacking options, able to operate anywhere across the attacking midfield areas, where he has this season impressively for Southampton.

His potential arrival would, however, cast doubts over the futures of Suso – currently on loan at Almeria in Spain – Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas.

Decent player but the price would have to be right because for twenty five million surely we could get greater pedigree now we are back in CL. Id be worried he could be another Nigel Clough.

I actually like Lallana a lot. I would love to see him in a red shirt… But my experience tells me that 1) It will take forever to negotiate a deal. 2) We will bid something like $100k and Southampton will laugh at us… 3) Spurs will bid just because we are interested… 4) Ian ‘I know how to close a deal’ Ayre will eat pizza on deadline day,,,,

Give Ayre a chance. Attracting players to Liverpool in the last few years was difficult. Its not so anymore. Players will be interested in playing for us under Rodgers. So that is a big boost in terms of negotiations. No player will want to go to spurs instead of us now. These things will help Ayre do a better job.

The money wanted for Lallana is worth it. He is the Captain of a premier league team, he is English, has premier league experience and he is just coming into his prime. Look at what Spurs did…spent same sort of money of “Big” European players with no English experience and look where it got them. Only one I’d have in red is Eriksson. Lallana has a lot of plus points an few negatives. He would slot into BR’s squad and IMO would hit the ground running. And personally I think he would do extremely well under the wing of our illustrious captain and possibly become the (Dare I say it) replacement for him. I think if they can get him for between 15-20 or a possible double swoop for him and Shaw for £35m (or a cheeky GJ plus £30m) then next season will be looking extremely bright.

    Probably but who know’s

To get Lallana we have to pay over the odds, the same as we did for Henderson. For my mind this is a good move which wont really effect any of our current list. Aspas has already admitted he is leaving. Alberto will go out on loan to get regular game time. Suso is anyone’s guess but I expect him to come back to fight for a spot, particularly with Moses leaving. In other words, by adding Lallana, Konoplyanka and Suso, but losing Moses and Aspas we are only one player up on this year. Hardly a big change in numbers, but pretty exciting in terms of options. Add in Borini who I think will also return and we are still only two players up on the current squad. And that still leaves a decent chunk of change for a left back…

Yes. This whole LFC story since Rafa left has been building to that exact moment you describe. It will never be looked on a coincidence but as money well spent. Keep the faith and YNWA!
