Fowler still ‘in the dark’ over future

Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has confirmed he is still none the wiser as to whether manager Rafael Benitez will offer him a contract extension at the end of the season, despite scoring four goals in his last five games for the club.

Fowler scored again on Easter Sunday, netting the winner for the Reds in their 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, but again failed to finish the match due to his lack of full fitness ‘“ something Fowler fears may persuade Benitez to let him leave Anfield for the second time in his career this summer.

After the Premiership victory, Fowler said, “People keep on asking me, but I’m as much in the dark as everyone else – and all I can do is score goals.

“I’ve not finished that many games. But it’s the manager’s prerogative – he’s got a decision to make, and if he doesn’t think I’m fit enough it’s up to him.”
