Benitez’s “crazy” outburst in full

This morning’s newspapers are all reeling off Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez’s post-match interview last night, after seeing his side squander points at the hands of Wigan, when really, they shouldn’t have.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva conceded a late penalty to gift Mido the opportunity to cancel out Yossi Benayoun’s first half opener, which he duly took.

Later, Benitez described the game as ‘œcrazy’ rueing a missed opportunity to rejoin Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table. Instead, the Reds slipped down to third.

A furious Benitez told the press:

“I prefer not to say too much but I am not happy with a lot of things.

“The second half was crazy and when it is crazy you cannot control things.

“I am disappointed with a number of things but no, the Wigan approach I will not talk about them.

“It has happened in the last three games. They have something in common I don’t like. I know why but I cannot say anything.”

“We are really disappointed. In the first half we played really well and controlled the game.

“We have lost two points. We were much better in the first half. We had control of the game. We didn’t kill the game.”
