Stevie: ‘œWhen in Rome’

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has revealed how much it would mean to him to become the third Reds captain to lift the European Cup in Rome, should they make it all the way in this season’s Champions League.

This year’s final will be played at the Stadio Olimpico in Italy’s capital, where Liverpool lifted the trophy both in 1977 and 1984.

After leading the Reds to European glory in Istanbul in 2005, and nearly again in Athens in 2007, Gerrard is determined to get his hands back on Europe’s most prestigious prize.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s quarter-final clash against Chelsea at Anfield, he said, “Rome has a lot of history with this club and the aim is to add to that history. We want to be the ones to go back to Rome and do it again. We remember the magical nights when Liverpool won there before.

“I want to win another Champions League. Everyone saw when I lifted the trophy in 2005 how much the competition meant to me.

“That was the best night of my football life.”

Liverpool vs Chelsea gets underway at 7.45pm tonight with the return leg at Stamford Bridge next Tuesday night.
