Alonso ‘not Real’s priority’

9 June 2009

Xabi Alonso is not amongst Real Madrid’s top transfer targets, it has emerged.

New Real president Florentino Perez yesterday confirmed that he is very interested in bringing Liverpool’s Spanish international midfielder to the Bernabeu, but it would seem the La Liga giants have bigger priorities.

Real are set to unveil the world’s most expensive player, Brazil’s Kaka who has signed a six-year contract in a transfer from AC Milan thought to be worth around £56million.

Reports from Spain this morning also suggest that the Spanish capital outfit are also expected to complete a deal for Valencia’s David Villa in the next 24 hours.

And Perez confirmed today that the club aren’t resting in the transfer market just yet, with attention and focus now turned to prising Manchester Utd’s Christiano Ronaldo away from Old Trafford ‘“ a transfer saga that could run for some time.

He confirmed to Sky Italia that the club were now concentrating on the Portuguese attacking midfielder.

“Ronaldo is a great player who we would like to bring to the club but first we have to speak to Manchester United because the important thing is for us to maintain a good rapport with everyone,” said Perez.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez reiterated his desire to keep Alonso at Anfield over the weekend.
