No. 45 – Fowlers Final Goodbye

The TIA Panel have voted Robbie Fowlers Final Liverpool game in at Number 45 in the TIA Days We’ll Remember all our Lives Countdown….

On 13 May 2007 ‘God’ bid the Kop an emotional final farewell when he graced the hallowed turf of Anfield one last time. Charlton Athletic were the visitors and everyone was willing him to score.

Sadly, there was to be no fairy-tale ending ‘“ he was substituted just minutes before the Reds were awarded a penalty ‘“ but that was quickly forgotten when he embarked on an emotionally-charged lap of honour with his four kids at the end.

The entire ground stood as one to applaud and an unprecedented display of adulation swept down from the stands to salute a true Liverpool legend.”

Fowler enjoyed two spells at Anfield, between 1993-2001, scoring 120 goals in 236 appearances and between 2006-2007, scoring 8 goals in 30 appearances under Rafa Benitez. One of the most revered figures in Liverpool’s recent history, Fowler is also one of the most naturally gifted goalscorers to have graced the famous red shirt. Since scoring on his debut against Fulham in a 1993 League Cup tie, Fowler enjoyed a long-running love affair with Kopites that never wavered.
