Kuyt: “It’s too early to compare”

Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt has urged the media and fans not to compare the Reds’ position in the league table to that of their title rivals at this early stage in the season.

Rafa Benitez’s men are a full six points behind Tottenham and Chelsea after just four games of the new campaign following two wins and two defeats.

But Kuyt says there’s no point in dwelling on how other teams are doing.

He told reporters, “At the moment it’s not important to look at where teams like Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal are because we’ve got to think about ourselves. That is the priority and I’m sure if we keep winning games, we’ll be up there soon.

“We will see where we are in a couple of months. Chelsea are a top side. We knew that at the start of the season and we’ve seen that so far. But every team will struggle this season. We have to focus on ourselves and keep winning our own games.

“It will be more interesting if there are more teams up there, taking points off each other, challenging the top four positions. Spurs have spent a lot of money and had a really good start. Manchester City are up there and will take points off teams.”

Liverpool next play Burnley at home on September 12th, after the international break.
