Javier Mascherano will be available to return to action in tomorrow night’s Champions League clash against Debreceni at Anfield, after missing Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Burnley with an injury.

A pelvic injury picked up whilst on international duty with Argentina the previous week forced the midfielder out of action, and the pain meant he had to stay behind in Argentina a few days longer than expected.

But Benitez believes Mascherano has fully recovered and will be available to return to the starting line-up for tomorrow’s game.

“He went to South America with a slight problem and played,” Benitez said.

“Afterwards he needed to check it out so we decided he should do it over there and miss our game at the weekend. It was not serious, only a minor thing, and he will be fit to play in the Champions League.”

Liverpool vs Debreceni kicks off at 7.45pm tomorrow night (Wednesday, 15th September) and it’s live on ITV 1 in the UK.

To mark the end of the 30-year wait for a league title, the ‘Liverpool Mishmash’ poster is available to order exclusively on This Is Anfield — the history of the Reds in one image!
