Riera hoping for Russian resolution this week

Outspoken Liverpool winger Albert Riera is hoping his future is resolved this week.

The Spanish international was suspended last week following his comments that the club was a “sinking ship” and criticising manager Rafa Benitez.

With the Russian transfer window open until April 8th, Riera has been linked with both Moscow clubs; CSKA and Spartak.

Yesterday reports suggested Liverpool had accepted an offer of around £6m from CSKA Moscow, while a loan move to Spartak Moscow has been turned down by the club according to other reports.

Riera told Russian newspaper Sport Express, “Russia presents a very interesting option for me.”

“For one, it’s the only prestigious league in Europe where the transfer window is open.

“And secondly, if I play there regularly, I may be able to earn my ticket to the World Cup in South Africa.”

“I hope that the question of my transfer will be resolved by this week,.”

Liverpool signed Riera from Espanyol in summer 2008 for £8m. He has made 56 appearances for the club.
