Mateo Kovacic and Danny Ings rumours dismissed

Two transfer stories from the weekend have been missed by the Liverpool Echo, who claim the Reds have no interest in Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Kovacic, the 22-year-old stylish Croatian international, had been linked with Liverpool via Italian media this weekend, but the Echo’s James Pearce claims there are no plans to pursue a move for him this summer.

Some cynics may say that Kovacic is the kind of player Liverpool should be targeting this summer, so it only seems right that the club would have no interest.

Another story Pearce has dismissed is a rather bizarre one linking Danny Ings with a move north of the border to Rangers.

This was a rumour that came about when a betting company slashed the odds on the 23-year-old joining the Scottish side. It was completely out of the blue, with no previous reports linking Rangers with Ings.

There seems very little likelihood that Liverpool would entertain letting Ings leave, with Jurgen Klopp said to be an admirer of the young English forward who worked so hard to get back to fitness for the end of last season.

Ings, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge could well be Klopp’s primary forward options next season.

Meanwhile, Pearce continues to report Liverpool’s interest in Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
