CONFIRMED: Liverpool agree £4.5 million deal with Derby for Andre Wisdom

Liverpool have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Derby County over the sale of centre-back Andre Wisdom, pending a medical.

Wisdom has spent the last four seasons away on loan, with Derby, West Brom, Norwich City and Red Bull Salzburg.

Having impressed with his stint with the Rams in 2013/14, and reaffirming his quality with Salzburg last term, Wisdom has now secured a permanent move to Pride Park.

Liverpool announced on Friday evening that they had agreed a fee with Derby for Wisdom’s sale, with this believed to be worth up to £4.5 million.

The Reds are expected to receive an initial £2 million, with add-ons dependant on performance and future success.

Wisdom has agreed personal terms with Derby, with the 24-year-old eager to return to the club where he made 38 appearances while working under Steve McClaren.

The move is unlikely to be completed in the coming days, with Wisdom currently on holiday and not due to undergo a medical until he returns, but this should be a mere formality.

The former Bradford City youth became Liverpool’s only title winner of 2016/17 when he helped Salzburg to lift a fourth consecutive Austrian Bundesliga at the end of May.

He could join former Hull City centre-back Curtis Davies at the back for Derby, with manager Gary Rowett clearly looking to reinforce his defensive line ahead of a promotion bid next season.

Speaking last month Rowett said Wisdom “is athletic, strong and has potential to play in the Premier League,” underlining his belief in the versatile defender’s ability.

Wisdom made 22 appearances for the Reds after joining from Bradford in 2008, scoring on his debut against Young Boys four years later.
