Liverpool were impressive as they dispatched of Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday, as the Reds made it three wins out of three to begin the season.
Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal
Premier League, Anfield
August 24, 2019
Goals: Matip 41′, Salah pen 49′, 58′; Torreira 85′
Jurgen Klopp‘s side had all week to prepare for the visit of the Gunners and they passed with flying colours, often proving majestic in the final third.
After a dominant first half, in which the visitors sat extremely deep and threatened only on the counter-attack, Joel Matip headed Liverpool in front shortly before half time.
Mohamed Salah doubled the lead soon after the restart, firing home a confident penalty, before scoring an outrageous solo effort to make it 3-0.
Lucas Torreira did pull a goal back late in the game, but it did little to dampen the spirits on another great day at Anfield.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the result on Facebook, Twitter and our forums.
A scintillating victory was lauded by the masses…
Masterful performance overall. Arsenal give. No breathing space. Pity to concede another scrappy goal but, otherwise, great game.

Nearly perfect performance. Was in 2nd gear for most of that match and eased past a top 4 challenger. Proving why we're the Champions of Europe

Brilliant win & a brilliant performance. No more to be said. Up the reds.

Brilliant performance across the board, pressing was superb and forward play was mesmerising. Disappointing not to get a clean sheet, but importantly it’s another win and performances are clearly on the up.

“Another great 2nd half performance! Seems to be the way so far this season ? YNWA” – Ian Tanner on Facebook.
“Battered them as always at Anfield. Lovely stuff.” – Sweeting on the forums.
#lfc have now won 12 league matches in a row, their Premier League record but equals 12 in a row in the league in 1990. Liverpool now have a chance to break their club record next week at Burnley, the same team against whom the record run started in March #topoftheleague #LIVARS

fifth straight season scoring at least three goals against Arsenal at Anfield. the "big six."

Another day of domination. Another day with room for improvement.
— Liverpool Offside (@LFCOffside) August 24, 2019
Crisp, one-touch passing, along with (at times) telepathic movement – with the added extra of relentless pressure in complete cohesion.
And these lads aren’t firing on all cylinders, yet. #LFC

Roberto Firmino was particularly outstanding on the day…
Firmino has Arsenal on strings.
— Sam McGuire (@SamMcGuire90) August 24, 2019
An organised demolition. Salah was dialled in today but Firmino remains the master puppeteer. What a team. Will irk Klopp to have conceded. Feels like Arsenal will never win a game at Anfield again. #LFCdigest

“His brain is on a different level. Great last year but matured to the complete player.” – John Gardner on Facebook.
“Firmino was on fire today and just wish he’d managed to score just to top off that performance.” – Dave-D on the forums.
btw Firmino is in excellent form. Looked so sharp in every game.

Other individuals were also praised, though…
Subtly majestic performance by Fabinho today. All muscle, brains and technique.
— Joel Rabinowitz (@joel_archie) August 24, 2019
Hendo has been fantastic today.

Joël Matip MOTM for me today. Honourable mentions to Firmino, Fabinho & Salah.

“When our midfield is on song, we are unplayable. Excellent performance by the mid three – Hendo, Fab, Gini. Salah and Bobby brilliant as always. Matip superb, critical goal when we couldn’t break.” – Incognito on the forums.

If only the Kop could replicate a European night in a league game, well tonight we did. Irrepressible Reds blew Arsenal apart. They barely deserved their consolation. Salah different class – Liverpool incredible

While David Luiz was mocked for a typically error-strewn display…
Mad how Arsenal had the entire summer to find a new centre back and ended up with David Luiz.
— Joel Rabinowitz (@joel_archie) August 24, 2019
David Luiz with a massive brain fart.
Like I said, Arsenal fans, just save that tweet in drafts.

Liverpool win 3-1. Certainly not the carnage and capitulation of Arsenal's last two seasons but no-one can say they did not know what they were getting when they signed David Luiz.
