Southampton sign Nathan Redmond, paving way for Sadio Mane exit

Southampton have confirmed the signing of winger Nathan Redmond, seemingly paving the way for Sadio Mane to leave and join Liverpool.

Redmond, who has actually been linked with Liverpool in the past, has signed for the Saints from Norwich City for £11 million.

The 22-year-old’s arrival at St. Mary’s is seen as a direct replacement for the Anfield-bound Mane.

Liverpool are in talks to sign Mane, the 24-year-old Senegal international, in a deal worth £30 million, making him the third most expensive signing for the Reds behind Christian Benteke and Andy Carroll.

Liverpool have reportedly offered £25 million plus £5 million in add-ons, but BBC Sport claim Southampton want nearer £40 million for a player who scored 11 goals in 37 Premier League games last season.

Mane’s move to Merseyside seems inevitable and he’ll become the fifth player to move from St. Mary’s to Anfield since summer 2014, following the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne.

Mane will add pace and width to Liverpool’s attack, competing with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino as Jurgen Klopp‘s attacking midfielders.

Liverpool have signed goalkeeper Loris Karius, centre-back Joel Matip and midfielder Marko Grujic as Klopp looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2016/17 season.
