Rodgers confirms Liverpool’s interest in Dempsey

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the club’s interest in Fulham attacker Clint Dempsey.

Speaking to the official LFC website in Boston, Rodgers explained that an enquiry had been made for the American international.

“Clint is a player we’ve enquired about, it is as simple as that,” said Rodgers.

Dempsey, who has scored 36 goals in the last two seasons, has been heavily linked with Liverpool and Rodgers admitted he is a player who rates.

“He’s a very talented player but we don’t like to talk about other clubs’ players.”

“Ian Ayre, our managing director, has spoken with the club to see what the position is. That is where we’re at.”

Dempsey, 29, is an adaptable player who can play up front, as a second striker or on the left of midfield – thus fitting into Rodgers’ preferred formation.

Earlier on Wednesday Fulham issued a statement to deny that Dempsey had joined Liverpool after New England Sports Network (NESN) had wrongly reported that a deal had been done.
