Reds to reward youngsters with new deals

Liverpool will reward their impressive young trio of Raheem Sterling, Suso and Andre Widsom with new contracts.

The three teenagers all started the 5-2 victory over Norwich at the weekend, with Sterling have featured in nine of Liverpool’s twelve fixtures so far this season.

While Suso has also been given his chance to shine lately – opportunities that may not have arisen without the transfer deadline day debacle.

“It’s funny how things work out. Maybe it’s fate,” remarked Brendan Rodgers. “Maybe this is all part of the story. Sometimes things happen by design, others by necessity.

“Whichever way, the plan between the window closing and January was to see how many of the young, talented players are going to be able to come into our squad – and I’ve been very, very pleased by the impact they’ve made.

“They have played with no fear, but I always say young players will run through a barbed wire fence for you. You have seen that in games.

“It’s also a great demonstration that with talent and spirit and belief and hard work what you can achieve, not matter how young you are.”

18 year old Suso is in the last year of his current deal at Anfield and Rodgers said “He’s in the last year of his contract, and it’s something we will look at.”

“He is tactically very good, strong technically with the ball. He makes things happen. I love that type of player. Talent finds space. He is a real talent.”

Liverpool officially have the youngest team in the Premier League, with an average of just 23.3 years, and Rodgers said “I will play a 17-year-old if he fights and he has quality.”

There are also repors of new contracts being secured for defender Daniel Agger and captain Steven Gerrard. Agger, meanwhile, is rumoured to have signed a boot deal with new LFC kit manufacturers Warrior Sports.

Liverpool signed Martin Skrtel and Luis Suarez to new contracts this summer.
