Canos scores, Kent assists, Wisdom starts – Liverpool FC Loan Watch Roundup

We take a look at how the numerous loaned members of Jurgen Klopp’s squad performed for their temporary clubs over the weekend, with a mixed bag of action for the loanees.

Seven of Liverpool’s 17 loaned men played for their current clubs over the weekend, with three spending their afternoons on the bench, and seven not involved at all.

Performing well and keeping a clean sheet against Swansea before the international break saw Andre Wisdom keep his starting shirt in the Norwich back four for their narrow 1-0 loss at Chelsea.

He played 90 minutes at right back at Stamford Bridge, and turned in a solid defensive display up against the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro down the Blues’ left, and he will hope to keep his shirt for the visit of Arsenal next time out following the convincing performance.

Elsewhere, Lazar Markovic was an unused substitute for Fenerbache on Saturday as he begins his comeback from a second injury spell, while Tiago Ilori was again left out of Aston Villa’s match-day squad for their 4-0 defeat to Everton.

There was mixed fortunes for Sergi Canos and Sheyi Ojo in the Championship, who both started as substitutes in their respective games.

Canos enjoyed a fantastic impact coming off the bench, scoring Brentford’s first of their 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, just three minutes after entering.

In a lively half an hour performance, the Spaniard slotted his side ahead with a cool chest-and-finish from close range after picking up the bouncing ball across the box to fire Lee Carsley’s side ahead.

Canos later almost restored his side’s lead after they were pegged back by Henri Lansbury’s equaliser, only to see his low drive palmed away.

But he played a vital part in the Bees’ 96th minute winner, pressing high, winning back possession and setting up the move for the last gasp winner notched by Philipp Hoffmann.

In contrast, Ojo played only the final 13 minutes of Wolves’ 2-2 comeback draw against Ipswich, as Kenny Jackett favoured home U21 prospect, Jordan Graham, ahead of the Reds loanee.

Ojo took over from the man who started in his place at the left of midfield, where he had little time to make a genuine impact on the game despite Wolves equalising through Benik Afobe after his arrival.

It was a weekend of severely contrasting fortunes for those in League One action.

Ryan Kent impressed again for Coventry, playing 90 minutes and producing another quality performance in their top-of-the-table clash against Gillingham – who the Sky Blues saw off 4-1 at the Ricoh Arena.

The 19-year-old – deployed on the right of Coventry’s attack – capped a fine performance with an assist for the second of the afternoon, with his pin-point corner finding Ben Turner who headed home.

Oppositely to the England youth attacker however, Harry Wilson continues to endure a frustrating time at Crewe – the Welshman came on as a substitute 20 minutes from time in Alex’s 5-1 home loss against Peterborough.

The Wales international entered into something of a desperate situation with his side 4-1 down, and thus made little impact with the division’s bottom side already dead and buried.

The same fate was suffered by Lawrence Vigouroux, who conceded five for Swindon as they went down to an embarrassing 5-1 at Fleetwood.

A miserable afternoon both collectively and individually saw the Chilean booked for giving away a penalty after charging out and bringing down Cod Army striker, David Ball, but he was powerless to prevent the other four goals, with some poor defending in front.

In Scotland, Dons’ No.1 Danny Ward helped Aberdeen return home with a 1-1 draw from their trip to Hamilton Academicals on Sunday afternoon.

The Welsh stopper may feel he could have done better with the home side’s equaliser, failing to hold onto a weak shot, but he made a couple of fine stops to keep the Pittodrie outfit in the game as he turned in another fine performance between the sticks.

Ryan McLaughlin watched on as an unused substitute for Derek McInnes’ side.

Over in Switzerland, Samed Yesil was an unused substitute for Luzern in their 1-0 win over FC Thun, while in Germany, Taiwo Awoniyi was left out of match-day involvement completely for Frankfurt, who drew 1-1 with Kaiserslautern.
