Diego Cavalieri signed for Liverpool on 11th July 2008 for a fee of around £3 millio from Brazillian side Palmeiras. He made his debut a day later against Tranmere, and has featured in many of the Reds’ early pre-season games. Despite taking the squad number 1, he is expected to act as back-up for Pepe Reina.
During his time in Brazil, he made 104 appearences for Palmeiras, helping them to become Brazilian Série B champions in 2003, aswell as the Campeonato Paulista (São Paulo State Championship) winner in 2008. He is of Italian ancestry and holds both brazilian and Italian passports.
