Rafa Pleased With Result

Rafael Benitez was happy that his Liverpool team put their disapointing derby display behind them and put in a much improved performance in their goalless draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League group opener earlier this evening.

“The team worked really really hard,” said Rafa.

“You could see the midfielders and the strikers supporting the defenders. It was our idea to keep a clean sheet and to go forward, and we had enough clear chances to maybe have scored one goal.

“At the end we have one point but I think we created enough chances to win and the one at the end was the most clear. But after playing seven games in 21 days, with a lot of players coming back from international duty, I think we showed we can play and it`s not bad.

“In the Champions League you never know but, with the experience and quality of PSV, if you can draw here and win at home you are in a good position – but you need to win at home.”

Commenting on his decision to rotate his team once again, he added: “I have explained many many times that we can`t play every game at one hundred per cent.

“We played against Everton, a difficult game, and decided to change. We have a good squad and we can use different players.

“We have more options in every game and I always talk about a long race. I don`t talk about one game and two games.”
