Top two defeated

A last minute Thierry Henry goal gave Arsenal a 2-1 win over Man United at the Emirates as the home side came from a goal down with 10 minutes remaining. Rooney had given United the lead with a header from an Evra cross but sub Van Persie equalised from a tight angle close-in, and then Henry headed home an Eboue cross with seconds remaining.

The result gives the top four an interesting look with 12 points seperating United and Arsenal in fourth, a point and a place ahead are Liverpool and five ahead of them are Chelsea. Then there’s still the six point gap to United at the top.

Can Liverpool and Arsenal therefore mount a title challenge still? Rafa Benitez grinned when asked the question after the 2-0 win over Chelsea and with United and Arsenal yet to come to Anfield you never know it might be possible.

The Liverpool fans’ mind cannot help but wonder how things would look if they’d started better or if they’d got the point they arguably deserved at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season.

Next up for the Reds is a trip to Upton Park to face West Ham (Jan 30th), then things get interesting with Everton at Anfield in the derby, Newcastle away and home games with Sheff United and Man United sandwiched between the Barclona ties. After that we travel to Villa and then host Arsenal (March 31st). So going into Easter it’s a good bet we’ll be a lot closer to knowing if it’s possible!

United host Portsmouth and Watford next though, Chelsea have Blackburn and Charlton next while Arsenal face Middlesbrough and Wigan.
