The first match in the second round of the TIA Kop Cup sees two performances from European matches in the last three years go head to head – Jamie Carragher in the Nou Camp this year, and Did Hamann in Istanbul in 2005.

Who can forget the influence Hamann had when coming on at half time and effectively changing the flow of the game, stopping the threat of Kaka, securing the midfield and providing a base for Gerrard to express himself on the game. The Kaiser went on to score a penalty in the shoot out – and then learned he had broken his foot during the match!

The 2-1 win in the Nou Camp against Barcelona was one of Liverpool’s best wins in Europe in recent years. While John Arne Riise and Dirk Kuyt scored the goals, it was Carragher who stopped the Barca playmaker Ronaldinho – again.
