Friday’s News: B&B on the menu

Babel and Benayoun are expected to be unveiled today after both players’ arrival were confirmed by the club on Thursday. Ajax forward Ryan Babel has agreed a five year deal after Liverpool and Ajax strook a deal worth £11.5m.

Yossi Benayoun’s move is reported to be around the £5m figure, and has signed a four year deal at the club. One report today suggests the Israeli attacking midfielder will be given the number 11 shirt at Anfield.

Finnan to pen new deal

picMeanwhile, full back Steve Finnan looks set to sign a new contract after being offered a two year deal with an option to a further year. The 31 year old full back has been an impressive part of the team over the last few seasons and currently has just one year left on his contract.

Rafa appoints more backroom staff

The Liverpool Echo yesterday reported Rafa Benitez has added to his backroom staff at Melwood with the appointment of Angel Vales as a reserve team coach and head of technical analysis.

The 40-year-old Spaniard has previously been part of the management team in youth development at clubs in Spain and Portugal, and is a doctor of sports science.

Another youngster loaned out

Young midfielder Adam Hammil has followed Danny Guthrie by being sent on a season loan and will join Southampton in the Championship for the season – the same club Guthrie impressed with at the end of last term. Guthrie himself has joined up with Sammy Lee at Bolton for the campaign.

Monster in the Final on Sunday

picMidfielder Javier Mascherano will be in action again on Sunday – in the Copa America Final vs Brazil for Argentina. The ‘Monster’ has been in good form throughout the tournament and has even scored twice. Argie attacker Lionel Messi has been continuing to impress though and his goal against Mexico on Wednesday showed just why he is being compared so much to the great Diego Maradona.

The players are now back in training, with Torres joing fellow new boys Andrei Voronin and goalkeeper Nikolay Mihalov on Thursday.
