Liverpool’s opponents tomorrow night at Anfield have appointed Tony Adams as their new manager. Portsmouth have moved quickly to promote Adams from assistant manager following Harry Redknapp’s departure to Spurs over the weekend.
Former Arsenal defender Adams has been Pompey’s assistant since 2006 and has previous managerial experience during a somewhat poor spell with Wycombe Wanderers.
Adams and coach Joe Jordan took charge of their match with Fulham on Sunday but his first game in charge will be against Liverpool on Wednesday (8pm kick off).
Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez has ruled out Fernando Torres and the Spanish striker won’t take part in the match. He is still suffering from a hamstring injury sustained on international duty and has missed the Reds’ last four matches – including the win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Tickets for the match will be available on the turnstiles after Portsmouth sent back a block of 800 tickets for the Anfield Road Lower in block 123 (behind goal, towards Main Stand). This is a good opportunity for anyone who normally struggles to get tickets.
Last time Liverpool beat one of the big four we drew 0-0 to Stoke at Anfield. Hopefully the same mistake won’t be made again and the fans can play their part on Wednesday.
