Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has welcomed the recent mind games between Reds boss Rafa Benitez and his counterpart at Manchester United, Alex Ferguson.

Whilst many have criticised the early mind games as a distraction from the football, Carragher believes it is a sign that the club are title contenders this season.

He told The Guardian, “Being involved in the mind games is a good thing. We’ve always been on the outside looking in, something we’re not proud of.

“I’ve always had respect for them (Manchester Utd). They’re a proper club, like us, and they should have respect for us as well.”
