Rafa delighted as backroom staff get new deals

It’s been a hell of a month for Rafa Benitez and Liverpool, with the action on the pitch over until April with the international fixtures this weekend, it’s left to events off the pitch to keep the good news coming.

After signing his own new contract earlier this month, Rafa was keen to get his backroom staff on longer terms, with five key members now getting new deals.

Assistant manager Sammy Lee, first-team coach Mauricio Pellegrino, goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero, fitness coach Paco de Miguel and chief scout Eduardo Macia have all agreed deals which will keep them at the club for at least another two years.

“I said when I signed my own deal recently that it was a priority to sort out the future of the technical staff,” said Benitez.

“We work extremely well as a team, and continuity is essential if we are to build on the progress we have made this season and move the club further forward. I’m delighted we have been able to sort out the contracts.”

March has seen Benitez guide his team to four consecutive victories with a goal difference of plus 13, thrown the title race back open, humiliated Real Madrid, sign his own long-protracted five year deal and now get his staff new deals too. No wonder he looks a happy chap at the moment!
