Liverpool look set to welcome back captain Steven Gerrard to the team for this Sunday’s Premier League clash with relegation threatened Newcastle Utd.
Gerrard has been out of action since April 8th with a groin injury when he came off early during Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat at home to Chelsea in the Champions League.
With four games of the season remaining, manager Rafa Benitez sees his skipper’s return as a massive boost.
“Steven is doing well and is training with the rest of the team, ” said Benitez.
“I think he will be fit and available for Sunday. It is good news for the team and for him because he can be a key player over the remaining games.
“Without Steven the squad has been playing well and scoring goals, so that is positive.”
Liverpool vs Newcastle gets underway at 1.30pm at Anfield this Sunday. The match is live on Setanta Sports.
