Newly appointed Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is lining up a bid to be reunited with Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant, who he managed as Birmingham boss several years ago.
Bruce sold Pennant to the Reds for £6.7million in 2006, but after a bright start has lost all hope of getting back into the Reds first team and is searching for a new club.
Pennant spent last season on loan at Portsmouth.
The 26 year old former Arsenal winger is out of contract at the end of the month.
According to reports last season, La Liga giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were also interested in him.
