Kyrgiakos set for debut

Liverpool’s new defensive signing, Sotirios Kyrgiakos will make his debut for the Reds in this Saturday’s Premier League clash with Bolton Wanderers, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The paper says that Kyrgiakos’ registration did not go through in time for him to be eligible to play in Monday night’s 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

The 30 year-old signed a two year deal at Anfield last week, costing the Reds around £1.5million from AEK Athens.

The Echo says:

The giant 6ft 4ins defender is ideally suited to facing Gary Megson’s physical side and Benitez will be hoping he can help nullify the aerial threat of frontman Kevin Davies.

Martin Skrtel was called back from injury to partner Jamie Carragher in central defence on Monday night, despite suffering from a painful cracked jaw which occurred when the two defenders clashed heads in Liverpool’s opening Premier League game of the season away at Tottenham.

18-year-old Dani Ayala remains Rafa Benitez’s only other central defensive option with Danish international Daniel Agger sidelined with a back injury.

Elsewhere in the treatment room, Liverpool have Alberto Aquilani and Fabio Aurelio out injured.
