Line-up vs Burnley: Mascherano out

Javier Mascherano misses today’s game as he struggles with a knock picked up whilst on international duty, but Martin Skrtel returns to the first team along with Yossi Benayoun.

The Reds host Premier League newcomers Burnley at Anfield with kick-off at 3pm with Rafa Benitez’s men looking to win their third game of the season.

Benayoun replaces Mascherano, whilst Skrtel comes in for new Greek defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos.

Liverpool: Reina, Insua, Carragher, Skrtel, Johnson, Riera, Lucas, Benayoun, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres. Subs: Cavalieri, Degen, Dossena, Spearing, Ngog, Voronin, Kyrgiakos.

Worryingly, there doesn’t seem to be an awful lot of firepower on the bench, a sign perhaps of our thin squad. Let us know what you think in the forums.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge told Radio City, “I’m delighted to see Jay Spearing on the bench, but that is the poorest bench I’ve ever seen in my life for Liverpool.”

This Is Anfield will be bringing you live text commentary on the game from 2.45pm.
