Kaiserslautern vs Liverpool

Liverpool’s pre-season campaign continues on Saturday afternoon with a visit to German side Kaiserslautern.

Following the Reds 0-0 draw with Grasshoppers in Switzerland on Wednesday night, Roy Hodgson’s men continue their preparations for next week’s Europa League third qualifying round first leg against either FK Rabotnicki or FC Mika.

With Liverpool’s thirteen World Cup stars not back in action yet, Hodgson looks set to name another youthful team with the likes of Nathan Eccleston, David Amoo and Jay Spearing keen to impress the new boss.

The teams last met in the pre-season of the 2006/07 campaign, when Liverpool went down 3-2 to the Germans. Goals for the Reds that day came from Craig Bellamy and Luis Garcia, whilst goalkeeper Pepe Reina made a brief appearance as a midfielder.

The Reds number one even had a chance that day, but glaringly hit the ball over from the edge of the area in acres of space.

Following the game, Liverpool head back to Merseyside where the squad will meet up with the players who have only recently returned from South Africa.

Kick-off at the Fritz Walter Stadion is 3.15pm.
