Liverpool statement on Torres injury

Liverpool’s new Head of Sport Science and Medicine, Peter Brukner, believes Fernando Torres will be ruled out of action for three weeks, missing all of the Reds’ pre-season campaign.

As we reported earlier today, Torres has got a small adductor muscle tear, picked up in the closing moments of Spain’s World Cup Final victory over Holland in South Africa on Sunday night.

Torres injury: Ruptured thigh muscle

Brukner told the club’s official web site, “The initial assessment was he had a mild adductor tear and the Spanish medial staff didn’t consider it to be too serious at the time.

“He had an MRI scan yesterday which confirmed a small tear. He should be able to resume training within two to three weeks and be able to play again within three to four weeks.”

Torres is currently resting in Madrid after returning with the Spain squad to celebrate their World Cup victory.
