Next Up: Steaua Bucharest (H)

Liverpool kick-off the Europa League proper on Thursday night with the visit of Romanians Steaua Bucharest to Anfield.

However, Roy Hodgson may well go into this game with caution, with a trip to Manchester Utd awaiting the Reds in the Premier League on Sunday.

The only time the two clubs have met before was under Gerard Houllier’s reign in the Anfield hot seat in 2003. Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw in the away leg – Djimi Traore getting the goal – before scraping through with a 1-0 victory back at Anfield – Harry Kewell getting the game’s only goal.

Joe Cole is expected to return to the side after missing Sunday’s Premier League draw with Birmingham City, whilst there are fitness doubts over David N’gog, Paul Konchesky and Fabio Aurelio.

Kick-off at Anfield is 8.05pm. More team news to follow.
