Johnson doubtful for Blackburn game

Liverpool look set to be without right-back Glen Johnson for Sunday’s must-win Premier League clash at home to Blackburn.

The 26-year-old has missed the last two Reds outings with an ankle problem, and is struggling with fitness ahead of tomorrow’s game.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson said, “Glen is trying to be fit but it’s not looking good for Sunday at this moment in time.”

“I haven’t ruled him out yet but I was hoping that when we returned from Napoli he would have been able to train on Friday. Unfortunately that’s not the case so we will have to see.

“If Glen doesn’t play then Jamie will play at right-back. Carragher will play anywhere you ask him and he is just a marvellous Liverpool player and club servant. He and Steven Gerrard are what Liverpool is all about.”

Hodgson will also be without Daniel Agger and Dirk Kuyt, so a place in the team for Martin Kelly looks likely.

Hodgson opted to rest Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Lucas and Meireles for Thursday’s goalless draw with Napoli in the Europa League. All four are expected to return to the team on Sunday.

Liverpool vs Blackburn gets underway at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
