Liverpool get their little bit of luck

Pepe Reina says Liverpool were due some good luck to secure a 1-0 victory over Fulham at Anfield last night and praised the Reds’ battling performance.

The win, decided by a 52nd minute freak own goal by Fulham‘s John Pantstil, saw Fulham hold off Liverpool’s challenge well. The victory takes the Reds up to seventh in the Premier Leageu table.

With Liverpool’s luck lacking over the last 18 months, Reina was glad to see some good fortune at the Kop end last night.

He told the club’s official web site, “Fulham are a really competitive team and are well organised. It was a massive three points for us.

“Sometimes you need a little bit of luck and we certainly deserved this bit of fortune with the goal.

“They pushed us hard right until the end and put us under a lot of pressure but we defended well and I thought we were pretty solid overall.

“It’s nice to keep two clean sheets in a row and it’s very important.

“A good team is built from the back and having a strong backline, and if you have this then you will have more chances to win more games.”
