Second Suarez bid turned down

Liverpool have had a second bid turned down for Ajax striker Luis Suarez, according to reports this evening.

Suarez is Liverpool’s principal transfer target and the two clubs have been locked in negotiations regarding two very different valuations of the player throughout January’s transfer window.

Voetbal International suggest Liverpool’s second bid for Suarez was immediately rejected earlier this evening, with a deadline of Saturday set by the Dutch side in finalising the deal.

It is understood that 24-year-old Suarez is keen to secure a move to Anfield and partner Fernando Torres up front, providing Liverpool with some much needed firepower in attack.

Suarez has scored 7 goals in 13 games for Ajax this season following a successful, but controversial World Cup for his country.

Edit: We have removed quotes which were attributed to Suarez reported by goals.mu earlier this evening, citing an interview with Dutch radio. This has since been mentioned on Twitter by The Times’ Ben Smith but no solid source has been confirmed. Sorry for any confusion.
