Carroll “ahead of schedule” but still not ready

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says Andy Carroll is still some way off making his debut for the club, but is ahead of schedule in terms of recovering from his thigh injury.

The former Newcastle frontman is yet to play for the Reds since making his transfer deadline day switch from the North East.

Some suggested yesterday that he could be included in the Liverpool squad to face West Ham in the Premier League this Sunday, whilst other believe he is in line to make his debut at home to Manchester Utd on March 6th.

“He has done everything that has been expected of him up to this time,” said Dalglish. “The medical people and ourselves on the football side are delighted with his progress.

“He’s still got a bit to go before he’ll be considered for a match, but he’s probably a little bit ahead of schedule rather than behind schedule.

“It’s great for him and it’s great for us. He wants to get a game but obviously patience is again a word that we need to adopt for him and for us.”
