Major blow as Kelly expected out for one month

Liverpool’s season looks set to have taken a further blow with the news that defender Martin Kelly could be out until April after tearing his hamstring in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham.

West Ham 3-1 Liverpool Match Report

Kelly pulled up with the injury after making a run down the right hand side shortly before the end of the first half at Upton Park.

Kelly has been nothing short of outstanding for the Reds this season, consistantly winning praises and man of the match nominations from fans and players.

The news will come as a big blow to Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish, who next face Manchester Utd in the Premier League this Sunday (6 March).

Kelly will undergo a scan on the injury at Melwood today, before the full extent of his absence from action is realised.

The Reds also lost Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles to injury in the defeat.

After the game, Dalglsih said, “Martin has pulled his hamstring and Raul got a kick in the knee.

“Obviously Martin is more serious than Raul. With a hamstring he might be struggling for next Sunday, though I wouldn’t take it as a given because I wouldn’t know.

“I would have thought with a hamstring it takes a bit longer than a week.

“With Raul we don’t know.”
