Meireles, Aurelio, Agger & Carroll could all face Man Utd

Liverpool are hopeful they could have Raul Meireles, Fabio Aurelio, Daniel Agger and Andy Carroll all fit for this Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester Utd, although all four face a fitness race ahead of the game at Anfield.

Meireles was taken off prematurely during Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday afternoon with a knee problem.

Liverpool first team coach Steve Clarke explained, “We’re hopeful. He [Meireles] had a little problem with his knee and as a precaution at the start of the second half we thought it was better to take him off. That gives him a better chance of being ready for the next game. He’ll get three or four days on the easier list and then hopefully towards the end of the week we’ll be able to put him back in the preparations for the weekend.”

The Reds will definitely be without defender Martin Kelly, who was today ruled out for one month with a hamstring tear. He too was subbed at half-time against West Ham on Sunday.

But the Reds could see the return of Aurelio (adductor) and Agger (leg), should return to training later in the week in hope of making the squad for Sunday.

“They are both on the easy list at the moment,” Clarke added. “We’re almost sure Fábio Aurélio will join us on Thursday and we’re hopeful Daniel will join us on Thursday or Friday at the latest.”

New striker Andy Carroll stands in line to make his debut against Utd. The former Newcastle forward hasn’t played in the Premier League since the last game on 2010.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos is expected to miss the game through injury.

Liverpool vs Manchester Utd gets underway at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned to This Is Anfield for the latest team news throughout the week.
