Reds in £8m bid for Connor Whickham

Liverpool have placed an £8m bid for Ipswich Town forward Connor Whickham, according to reports today.

The 18 year old 6ft 3in Englishman is regarded as one the country’s hottest talents and earmarked as the ‘next Alan Shearer’ by some. Initial plans to sign the player from the Championship side in January where shelved after the Fernando Torres saga kicked in.

Now Liverpool have returned with a firm bid of £8m, which is said to have been rejected by the Tractor Boys. Ipswich are reportedly demanding £15m – the amount that would trigger a transfer release clause in a contract Whickham signed earlier this year.

Elsewhere, reports suggest Liverpool are hoping to press ahead with their bid to sign fellow English young talents Jordan Henderson, the Sunderland midfielder, and Phil Jones, the Blackburn Rovers defender.

The combined fee for the three players would be around the £30m mark and signal the start of FSG’s plan to sign young exciting players with high re-sale value.
