Liverpool v Sunderland match given go-ahead

Liverpool’s opening day fixture with Sunderland will go ahead despite the unrest in England this past week.

Tottenham‘s game at home to Everton has been announced as the only postponement due to the riots that have occurred in London and across the country.

“The Premier League has worked closely with the authorities and London-based clubs throughout the recent civil unrest to ensure matches are staged in accordance with supporter safety,” read a Premier League statement.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been drawn away to League One side Exeter City in the second round of the League Cup. The Reds enter the competition at the second stage due to their lack of European involvement this season.
