Joe Allen set for Liverpool move

Liverpool have moved closer to signing Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen and are close to agreeing a similar fee to the £11m paid for Fabio Borini, according to The Telegraph.

The diminutive midfielder, 22, was a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ side last season and the Welshman and “is aware of Liverpool’s interest and has asked Swansea not to deny him the opportunity to move to Merseyside”.

Allen is part of the Great Britain squad for the Olympics. He made 44 appearances under Rodgers last season, scoring four goals.

Meanwhile, we understand that Newcastle returned to Liverpool with a second offer for Andy Carroll on Monday night, which was again rejected.
