Joe Allen and Clint Dempsey have dominated the headlines this week, with both reported to be on the verge of moves to Liverpool.
But it is now a more worrying transfer story that is breaking, with Juventus reported to have told Arsenal forward Robin van Persie that they are seeking to partner him with Luis Suarez by signing both this summer.
BBC Sport report that “Liverpool will take a dim view of Juventus’s interest in Suarez and have no intention of allowing their prized Uruguayan forward to leave the club.”
Meanwhile, Sky Sports reported on Friday that Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Swansea City‘s Joe Allen, 22, with manager Brendan Rodgers “meet £15m valuation for midfielder”. We understand though that a bid for Allen will not be as much as that and instead be nearer the £10m figure.
Any deal for Allen is likely to be concluded once Swansea have signed a replacement for him – with Bolton’s Mark Davies recently linked with a move to the Welsh club. The Swans signed Spanish midfielder Michu from Rayo Vallecano on Friday.
The Times also report today that Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Welshman Allen.
Regarding American forward Clint Dempsey, Saturday’s The Times report that Fulham could ask Liverpool to include Charlie Adam as a makeweight in a deal.
Meanwhile, The Liverpool Echo reporter James Pearce says that if Clint Dempsey joins Liverpool, the fee will be less than £10 million, and that the player has made it clear to Fulham that he wants to join Liverpool.
