Borini blow for Liverpool as Italian breaks metatarsal

Liverpool have been dealt a big blow to their plans this season with the news that Italian forward Fabio Borini has broken a bone in his foot.

The Italian F.A. confirmed the news to Liverpool, after Borini pulled up with the injury during a training session with his Under-21 national team ahead of their World Cup Qualifier against Sweden this weekend.

Borini will now undergo tests to determine which bone he has broken and the extent of the injury, which leaves Liverpool with only Luis Suarez as a senior striker. Youngsters such as Samed Yesil and Adam Morgan are now likely to get a chance in the first-team.

The Reds have 18 matches until the January transfer window opens and Borini will likely face at least 8 weeks out.

Borini joined the Reds for £10.5million from AS Roma in the summer and has scored one goal since his arrival on Merseyside.
