The player who looks set to become the early arrival is Egyptian playmaker Mohamad Salah.

The 21-year-old will arrive from Swiss side FC Basel for around £8 million, according to several reports.

Brendan Rodgers attended their Champions League tie with at Schalke earlier this month and Liverpool’s interest has been reported by The Mirror previously.

Mirror football reporter David Anderson tweeted on Monday afternoon to say the deal is “progressing well”.

Liverpool could have done with Salah at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, against who he impressed in the Champions League earlier this season.

Salah is a left-footed, pacy player with an eye for goal, having scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for his country.

He has been likened to Franck Ribery, and could fit into the Liverpool side in an interchanging, fluid front-three alongside Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
