Reports: Liverpool face fight for rising Brazil-born Italy star and Swede linked to loan move

Liverpool are embroiled in a battle with Fiorentina and Chelsea to sign Brazilian-born Italian Under-21 international Jorginho, according to talkSPORT.

The central midfielder is most likely one of a number of players being considered by Brendan Rodgers to improve his midfield come the January transfer window.

The latest Liverpool transfer rumours on talkSPORT suggest Serie A side Fiorentina are leading the chase for his signature, although his current club, Hellas Verona, are reluctant to sell.

The radio station report this week:

Liverpool, who are looking to bolster their midfield ranks in January, came close to signing the 21-year-old last summer, while Chelsea and Arsenal are growing increasingly interested in securing his services.

The report also suggests that Verona are hoping to hold on to Jorginho until at least next summer.

Jorginho was last linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, but the interest never came to fruition.

Liverpool have also been linked with moves for Hamburg midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore this week.

Elsewhere today, the Mirror report that Liverpool are keen on signing Swedish attacker Ola Toivonen on-loan until the end of the season from PSV Eindhoven.

David Maddock writes in Thursday’s edition of the newspaper:

The versatile 27-year-old, who has been linked with Newcastle, can play in midfield or along the front line, and would provide the cover boss Brendan Rodgers needs in his injury-hit squad.

However, Toivonen has become a regular feature for PSV this season, playing in all but two of their opening 16 games of the Dutch Eredivisie season.
