Liverpool “could make move” for £44m Marco Reus as Lazar Markovic jets in

Liverpool could be set to make an offer for Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus, according to reports on Monday.

Reus is reported to have turned down a move to Man United earlier this summer, expecting to be signed by Barcelona.

However, the Catalan giants opted to sign Luis Suarez in a £75 million deal that will be completed this week.

Admittedly not the best of sources when it comes to Liverpool transfer news, Ben Jefferson of the Daily Express reports:

It seems that Liverpool are ready to offer the dazzling forward a way out of Borussia Dortmund.

Reports suggest that Brendan Rodgers could launch a £44m bid for Reus that Dortmund will find difficult to resist.

Reus, 25, was gutted to miss out on Germany’s World Cup triumph in Brazil, suffering an ankle injury in a pre-tournament friendly against Armenia last month.

The Dortmund star scored 16 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2013/14, creating a further 90 goalscoring chances for teammates, according to Squawka.

His talents may well be seen by Brendan Rodgers as the perfect antidote to Suarez’s departure – one of the few players who can match Suarez’s creative talents.

The Guardian also link Reus to Liverpool story briefly in their transfer rumour round-up:

Rodgers has also trained his sights on Marco Reus and is hoping a £45m bid will be enough to lift the Borussia Dortmund speedster from his double misery of missing out on Germany’s World Cup-winning campaign through injury and a dream move to Barcelona after the Catalans opted to sign Suárez instead.

However, The Times journalist Tony Barrett believes the rumours to be fabricated:

Would Rodgers and the club’s owners be willing to smash the current club transfer record of £35 million (Andy Carroll, January 2011) to secure Reus’ services?

Meanwhile Serbian international forward Lazar Markovic looks set to complete his move to Anfield imminently, flying in for his medical at Melwood on Monday.

Dominic King of the Daily Mail writes:

Assuming everything goes smoothly in his medical – and there is no reason to suggest it won’t – Markovic, who will sign a long-term contract, is likely to be officially announced at some point within the next 24 hours.

Markovic will become Liverpool’s fourth confirmed signing of the summer, following Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana’s arrivals from Southampton, and the purchase of midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool have also recently been linked with a move for Swansea City left-back Ben Davies and today we bring you a scouting report on the 21-year-old Welsh international.
